About Mark
Born and raised in the Ottawa Valley, Mark began his musical journey by learning to play the piano and singing at church. He started writing songs in his early teens, but it wasn’t until he moved to Waterloo Region to attend the University of Waterloo that his musical ambitions took off.
Mark formed his first band almost immediately, and he started performing around the province. Over the next ten years, he recorded several studio albums with his original band and began to place music in television, movies, and commercials. Mark also started to perform with various tribute acts, from Tim McGraw to Johnny Cash to Shania Twain, experiencing even more of the touring life.
Eventually, Mark wanted to stay closer to home, so he shifted away from touring and became a highschool math teacher, all while continuing to play weddings and other events around Southern Ontario with his acoustic duo, the Mark Smith Experience. At this point, he tried his hand at playwriting, penning musicals which were performed at the highschool where he works. Mark also continues to write and perform original music with the Durham County Band, while working with European artists on musical exchanges and collaborations.
Mark’s lifelong relationship with music has taken him around the continent, although he’s always happiest performing close to home. Currently, Mark performs as a wedding singer and gigs regularly at establishments around Southern Ontario. Book a gig with him now!
